Mallorcan Food You Need to Taste ASAP

Updated: Jan 16, 2020

It's true, you can be prety sure to find ANY of the world's famous quisines in Mallorca. But why eat something Italian or American when you're in Spain? These are the foods you shouldn't miss while staying there. #Mallorca #food

restaurant Dragonera, Sant Elm, Mallorca. Mallorcan food.

1. Cocas de patata

These cakes are mostly famous in Valldemossa, a small town in the mountains. They are made of potatoes and make a perfect match with afternoon coffee. Owning to the beautiful weather in summer, you're very likely to enjoy them outside in a bakery's garden or on the street.

Allioli: Garlic cream. Sant Elm, Mallorca.

2. Allioli

A smooth cream made of olive oil, egg, a pinch of salt and garlic. Being a person who hates the smell of fresh garlic going out of her mouth, I didn't want to try at first. But now I'm glad I did. There isn't really much garlic in the cream - it's very soft and tasty. If you find it on your table before lunch, served with olives and bread, you can be quite sure you're not going to finish the lunch.

3. Ensaimadas

Another sweet pastry to have your coffee with. Sold in the boxes that look like pizza boxes, resemble snails' shells. You can choose from different types: plain, with chocolate, with cheese... or maybe you want to try all of them?

pa amb oli. Mallorca, Mallorcan food.

4. Pa amb oli

Olive oil is really popular in the Mediterranean and the proof is here: pa amb oli also wouldn't exist without it. Pa - bread, amb - with, oli - oil. You basically pour a little of oil on the bread, add tomato, cheese/ham/meat/olives, whatever you like. And that's it. A good idea for a quick and tasty dinner, what do you say?

Fish: sea bass (lubina). Sant Elm, Mallorca

5. Fish & seafood

This one is pretty obvious considering the fact Mallorca is an island. Fish and seafood is served almost everywhere in all forms imaginable. If you'd like to try more at once, I'd recommend ordering paella (rice salad) with crabs, shrimps and clams. There are also opportunities to try an octopus or a crab. But if you're not keen on stuff like this just like me, there's still plenty good fish to eat. The most popular here, in my opinion, is sea bass (lubina). You can have it grilled or baked, served with potatoes and vegetables and a glass of wine.

Which one of these would you try? Let me know in the comments!
